Amsterdam, and Paris, and Munich… Oh My!

I have some pretty exciting news! My husband’s work is sending him to Europe for training so we decided to take advantage of the opportunity by flying in a week early and visiting a few different countries in a whirlwind adventure! I’ll post in more detail once we have a more clear itinerary, but I just had to share!

Amsterdam, Netherlands

We’ll start off in the Netherlands, visiting one of my husband’s friends that lives there. While most people hear Amsterdam and think of some salacious activities, there’s actually a lot of history and beauty to enjoy, too!  The house where Anne Frank and her family hid is in Amsterdam, as is the largest single collection of Van Gogh’s works, and amazing tulip fields. And then of course there is the Red Light District and coffee shops.  (Informative side note: In Amsterdam, a cafe must be licensed to sell marijuana in order to label themselves as a “coffee shop.” This is not your momma’s Starbucks.)

Paris, France

Visiting Paris has always been a distant “someday” dream of mine. I am thrilled to be finally going to the City of Lights! I cannot wait to see the Eiffel Tower and the Arc de Triomphe, explore the Louvre and Musee d’Orsay, and eat amazing French cuisine. It’s been almost a decade since I last took a French class, but I’m trying to brush up on the language, too. With only two days in the city, I’m sure we will just barely scratch the surface of such an amazing city.

Disneyland Paris Resort

Of course if I’m going to be in Paris, I’m going to have to go to Disneyland Paris! We’re planning two days, split between Parc Disneyland and Walt Disney Studios. I’ve been reading up and it definitely will be a different experience than I’m used to at Walt Disney World. In addition to being much smaller, the food is apparently more of an afterthought than an attraction all its own… and is reportedly downright bad in some places. I’ll post a review of the places we eat, along with my trip report to give you the low-down.

On the other hand, there are a lot of unique opportunities at Disneyland Paris that aren’t available at other parks, like Phantom Manor and a whole Ratatouille-themed land! I will have tons of pictures and info to share once we get back!!!

Munich, Germany

If you’re not from South-Western Ohio, you probably don’t know that Cincinnati is home to one of the largest Oktoberfests outside of Germany… and the Guinness World Record’s largest chicken dance. As a greater Cincinnatian, German culture has just been a part of growing up here – Oktoberfest, Maifest, and one of the first Hoffbrau Haus establishments outside of Europe! While we will only have one day in Munich, we are excited to be participating in this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to go to Oktoberfest in Munich!

I will post more about what I learn as I plan and travel! Feel free to post any questions you have below!

Never Grow Up!
